Step by step guide: bleed a radiator
Determine if your radiator needs bleeding. If it is warm at the bottom and cool at the top, it needs to be bled.
Important: you must only do this when the heating system is cold.
- Get a bleed key and a piece of tissue or towel.
- Put the tissue underneath the valve.
- Insert the radiator key and open the valve.
- Wait until the air has purged from the radiator and water starts to come out of the valve.
- Use the tissue to catch the water and turn off the valve.
- Repeat this process for all radiators in your home.
- If you have a combination boiler, you will need to re-pressurize it.
